Corrections Policy

Accuracy matters to Spotlight Sphere. When a material error is confirmed, we correct it clearly and as soon as reasonably possible. We also distinguish between a factual correction, a routine edit and an update made because a story has developed.

Our Approach to Accuracy

Editors review articles before publication, but no newsroom is immune from mistakes. Readers, sources and people named in our coverage can help us identify errors. We consider correction requests on their evidence, not on whether the request is favourable to the subject of a story.

Our wider standards are set out in the Editorial Policy.

What Counts as a Correction

Minor Edit

A spelling, punctuation, formatting or style change that does not alter the meaning of the article. Minor edits may be made without a correction note.

Factual Correction

A change to an inaccurate name, date, number, quotation, location, description or other factual claim. A material factual correction should include a visible note explaining what was changed.

Clarification

A clarification improves wording that was accurate but could reasonably be misunderstood. A note may be added when the clarification materially affects how readers understand the article.

Article Update

An update adds reliable new information after publication. It is not necessarily a correction. Material updates should show an updated date and may include a short note describing the new information.

Retraction or Removal

Retraction is reserved for serious cases where the central basis of an article is shown to be unreliable and cannot be repaired through correction. Removal may be considered for legal, safety, privacy, copyright or exceptional editorial reasons. We do not remove accurate coverage simply because it is inconvenient or unfavourable.

How to Request a Correction

Send the article URL and identify the exact sentence or claim. Explain the issue and provide reliable evidence through the Contact Us page or at [email protected]. State whether you are the subject of the article, a representative, a source or a reader.

Please avoid sending passwords, identity documents or sensitive personal information unless the editorial team requests it through a secure method.

How We Review Requests

We check the published wording, original sources, available records and any new evidence. We may contact the requester, writer, source or relevant organisation for clarification. Acknowledging a request does not mean the requested change will be accepted.

When evidence supports a correction, we update the article. When the evidence does not support a change, we may explain the decision where practical.

How Changes Appear on an Article

When a material factual correction is made, we add a clear note on the article explaining what changed. Where practical, the note appears near the top of the article or in another place readers can find quickly.

Material updates should also show an updated date. Minor edits that do not change meaning may be made without a public note. Retractions and removals are handled carefully and, where appropriate, with a short public explanation.
